The Institute of Radio Astronomy (IRA) of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was established in 1985. It has been since headed by Professor LYTVYNENKO Leonid Mykolayovych, Member of NAS Ukraine.
The institute is an Ukraine's leading research establishment exploring space with radio astronomy and radio physics means, whose key research interests are:
development of the theory and physics of radio telescopes, improvement of instruments for radio astronomy research;
radio astronomy efforts in a broad band of radiowaves;
exploration of earth and planets, near-earth and interplanetary space with the radio astronomy and remote sensing methods.
Apart from the basic research the institute carries out the applied high-tech R&Ds and designs the oscillation circuits and radio systems of varied applications in microwave, millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths.
