The Transportation Problems Institute was founded in 1990. One of its departments is located in Moscow. The organizer and the first director of the Institute was Academician N. S. Solomenko.

BASIC RESEARCH AREAS.

Fundamental research in the field of the intersectoral problems of transportation reliability, safety, control; computer methods of data-processing in transportation systems and processes, in the fields of transportation power engineering, development of advanced means of transportation, ecological problems of transportation functioning.

RECENT SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS.

Development of the principles of creating simulated situations allowing to predict the influence of different means of transportation on man and the environment; creation of a physical model of high rate deformation and dynamic fracture of solids.

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION.

The Institute carries out a long-term program of scientific cooperation with the American Transportation and Consulting Company, ALK Associates Inc. (Princeton N. J.), the Californian Technological Institute (CALTECH), the Technical University of Varna. The Institute maintains exchange of information and keeps other forms of cooperation with the Transportation Ministry of Finland.
