The Faculty of Economics has been educating students since 1971, as part of the Faculty of Economics and Law. In 1972, the department was divided in two: the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Law. Since that time, the Faculty of Economic has existed as an independent department within Tver State University.
The Faculty comprises 6 departments: Economic Theory, (formerly Political Economy, founded in 1929, merged with the Faculty in 1995), Mathematics, Statistics and Informatics in Economics (formerly Automatic Processing of Economic Information and Statistics, created in 1981), Accounting (autonomous department as of 1983), Economics and Production Management (autonomous as of 1989), Finance (created in 1996), National Economy (created in 2000).
Currently, the faculty has 9 professors and 42 candidates of science, which amounts to more than 70 percent of staff holding a degree. This faculty houses the departments of: Economic Theory, Economics and Production Management, Finance, and the Department of National Economics that allow students to obtain postgraduate degree.
