Abstract: Processes occurring during the thermal treatment of nanocrystalline zirconium dioxide are reviewed. Changes in the dimensions and structure of ZrO$_{2}$ that occur depend upon the calcination conditions used.
Keywords: zirconium dioxide, ZrO$_2$, hydrothermal synthesis, phase formation, formation mechanism.
