The process of propagation of electromagnetic pulses in layered media
S. B. Popov
Abstract:
The process of transient propagation of short electromagnetic pulses emitted by a slot antenna
representing a horizontal magnetic dipole placed at the perfectly conducting surface in a layered lossy media is under consideration. Some new asymptotical solutions, connected with calculation of the integrals of Sommerfeld type and with the inverse Laplace transform are received in the paper. The new types of waves are obtained, that are the lateral waves with reflections. The different pulse shapes are investigated (the rectangle one, Gaussian and others). The results of the asymptotic solutions and of the direct numerical computations are presented. The paper results are of interest for the problems of subground sonding and in geophysical prospections of oil/gas boreholes.
