Computational modelling and methods to reduce fin buffet loads on aircraft
A. S. Epikhin, V. T. Kalugin Bauman Moscow State Technical University
Abstract:
The article presents results of numerical calculations and experimental study of unsteady turbulent flow influence on the aerodynamic control devices. The numerical results of flow around airbrake and fin are presented. The calculations were performed using OpenFOAM software package. The experimental data were obtained in subsonic wind tunnel in ВMSTU. The comparison computation and experimental data was conducted. Fluctuating loads on the fin caused by the airbrake, which was installed at different angles, was estimated. To reduce unsteady loads acting on the tail fin, perforation and edge modification of the airbrake have been proposed. It was found out that airbrake with perforation decreases buffet loads.
