Numerical simulation of the wake influence on the flow around truncated cone

Abstract:
The influence of a narrow wake with the reduced Mach number and total pressure values on the flow about blunt body (truncated cone) has been investigated. Two variants of the wake formation have been considered: after the energy source and small moving body ahead the cone. The free boundary method was used for the flow simulation about moving bodies. The dynamics of the bow shock interaction with the small body and the reverse flow region formation have been studied. For the regimes considered it has been shown that the wake before the body results in a significant reduction of wave resistance.
