Numerical investigation of turbulent boundary layer by using zonal RANS/LES method

A. Issakhov

Abstract: In recent years, more and more attention is paid for the zonal RANS/LES simulations of turbulence, where boundary layers were calculated using the Reynolds averaged Navier–Stokes equation (RANS) and large eddy simulation method (LES). One of the problems that may affect the accuracy of the zonal method is the generation of vortices from a smooth RANS field of turbulent eddies capable of supporting the Reynolds stress in the zones of LES. In order to generate the structure of turbulence in the LES zones are used synthetic turbulence and controlled forcing.
Keywords: zonal RANS/LES method, boundary layer, large eddy simulation.
