LATRANT: two-dimensional radiative Lagrangian gas dynamics for ICF problems

Abstract:
2D-Lagrangian gas dynamic code ATLANT and 2D multigroup radiation transport code LATRA were combined into united code LATRANT for the simulation of ICF radiation gas dynamic problems in $r$-$z$ geometry. New program takes into account radiation transport in multigroup approach and gas dynamics according to an improved Lagrangian difference scheme. Simulation of the two-shell glass-DT target compression by isotropic X-rays was taken as a quasi-ID test. The obtained plasma parameters are presented. Qualitative difference between the LATRANT results and the results obtained in threetemperature approximation is demonstrated. The compression of the same target by angle nonhomogeneous irradiation was simulated. Symmetrization of inner shell compression and fuel preheating has been observed as a characteristic feature of indirect compression schemes.
