Abstract: The paper concerns with the CFD software project GIMM which is being carried out in the Institute for Mathematical Modeling, Russian Ac. Sci., for heterogeneous computing systems. The GIMM project pursues the goal of joining up new results in numerical analysis of fluid mechanics with latest achievements in creation of network facilities. The GIMM code can be used for multiscale modeling of evolutionary three-dimensional hydrodynamic phenomena.
A set of universal program tools is developed for input and acquisition of geometrical and physical data related to a three-dimensional problem with mixed initial and boundary conditions. Simultaneously these tools are used for storage and treatment of a discrete computational model. The main feature of GIMM package is the throughout use of parallel programming at all stages of a problem solution, i.e., from geometry modeling till postprocessing. The created code is highly effective compared to the traditional PC-oriented numerical tools and ensures 10 to 100 times reduction of the period necessary for the complete research of any fundamental or applied problem.
The present article describes the basic concepts of CFD studies by means of multiprocessor systems with distributed memory, the overall and detailed structure of GIMM package and some examples of GIMM applications.
