Kinetic model of hypersonic rarefied gas flows

V. S. Nikol'sky

Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute
Abstract: The applicability region determination as applied to different models based on continuum Navier–Stokes equations for hypersonic flows in a transition regime is investigated. On the basis of a kinetic equation for gases with internal degrees of freedom an asymptotical analysis of hypersonic rarefied gas flows is conducted. Maxwell transport equations are used for derivation of closed system of macroscopic equations describing gas flows in viscous shock layer and hypersonic boundary layer.
