Dynamic regimes of the carbon cycle functioning in a transitional bog ecosystem
N. N. Zavalishin A. M. Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences
Abstract:
The dynamic compartment approach is applied to the carbon cycle in a transitional bog ecosystem for studying its reaction on the increase of CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. Dynamic regimes of the carbon cycle functioning which can be interpreted in terms of ecosystem's response to the explicit perturbations, are reflected on the parametrical portrait built by means of bifurcation theory. The modern equilibrium loses its stability under increase of carbon assimilation by plants, and the critical value for carbon pressure is calculated. It's shown that chaotic oscillations can be considered as transitional regimes between different ecologically interpretable stable configurations of carbon cycle, and numerical characteristics of corresponding strange attractors are obtained.
