Nonlinear dynamics of solitary plane waves in ice crystal
O. I. Savina Russian State University of Trade and Economics
Abstract:
The dynamics of solitary plane waves in the $I_h$ ice crystal has been investigated numerically.
A wave profile has been found by using the pseudospectral method that allows one to obtain
solitary wave solutions of narrow profile. The wave properties are shown to depend essentially
on the direction of wave propagation. The solitary wave possesses the soliton properties (it
has a supersonic velocity interval propagating with a permanent shape and speed) during its
motion along the a crystal axis. The wave propagation along other crystal axes is always
accompanied by phonon radiation that becomes infinitesimally small near the sound velocity.
