Mixing layer of supersonic rarefied streams past trailing edge of a smooth plane plate
V. A. Titarev, E. M. Shakhov N. E. Bauman Moscow State Technical University
Abstract:
Interaction of two supersonic parallel uniform rarefied streams separated by smooth semiinfinite
plane plate is studied past the trailing edge under condition the equality of a pressure
in undisterbed flows (tangential discontinuity). Analysis is based on a kinetic equation which
is solved numerically by finite difference method. Special attention is paid to the cases:
1) simple tangential discontinuity (discontinuity in flow velocity with both density and
temperature being constants) and 2) contact discontinuity with equal velocities of undisturbed
streams. Any case of discontinuity generates waves traveling from the plane of the plate. At
a large distance from the trailing edge thе solution of the kinetic equation is close to the
solution of the corresponding parabolizedl Navier–Stokes equations.
