Abstract: Thermolysis of (OC)5ReC≡CPh in refluxing toluene yields the binuclear complex Re2(CO)7(C2Ph)4 2, characterized by an X-ray diffraction study; 2 contains a rheniacyclopentadiene moiety, formed by coupling of four PhC≡C groups, two of which undergo additional annelation producing the 1-phenylnaphthalene system.
