Abstract: It has been shown that 6-nitro-Δ5-steroids, nitrostyrene and saturated aliphatic nitro compounds in tetrahydrofuran are reduced efficiently with stannous iodide and a catalytic amount of concentrated hydrochloric acid to the corresponding 6-ketosteroids, oximes or hydroxylamine derivatives in good yields, respectively.
