Abstract:
The phase diagram of the system 15-crown-5–H2O, has been studied, and the polyhydrate 15-crown-5•8H2O, which melts congruently at 12.8 °C, has been found; a single crystal X-ray structure of the novel layered polyhydrate 15-crown-5·8H2O is reported, which shows that water molecules connected via hydrogen bonds, forming pentagons and octagons make up layers, and the crown ether molecules are situated between water layers, forming hydrogen bonds with water molecules of the layers.
