Abstract: The treatment of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) with Co2(CO)8 resulted in hexa(3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane)cobalt(II) bis(tetracarbonylcobaltate) 1, the co-hydrolysis of which with APTES, tetraethoxysilane, MeSi(OMe)3 and HO(Me2SiO)nOH afforded cobalt-containing xerogels or transparent films.
