Abstract:
The results of an experimental study of the influence of a longitudinal magnetic field of an elongated solenoid on stretching of metal shaped-charge jets in free flight are presented. In the experiments, shaped charges of 50 mm diameter with a copper conical liner have been used. The parameters of the discharge circuit of a solenoid with a capacitive energy storage provided the characteristic times of reaching the maximum magnetic induction to be of the order of 100 $\mu$s. For the magnetic field parameters used in the experiments with a maximum induction value of up to 10 T, a small increase in the penetration depth of a steel target was observed, not exceeding 10%. The possible reasons for the large discrepancy between the obtained results and the results of similar experiments are discussed.
