Abstract: Within the framework of the Landau theory of phase transitions and the density functional method, it is shown that the structural transformation from a body-centered cubic phase to a rhombohedral phase revealed in vanadium at 69 GPa is a first-order deformation phase transition close to a second-order phase transition.
