Abstract:
The shape of momentum distributions of doubly charged ions emerging in the process of ionization of atoms in an intense low-frequency circularly polarized laser field is discussed. Two possible channels of ionization–sequential and collective tunneling–are shown to lead to qualitatively different momentum distributions of the ions. Obtained results can be used for experimental search of the collective tunneling effect in atoms.
