Abstract:
Background. In the past three decades spacecrafts have discovered more than 2000 sungrazing comets. In comet cosmogony there has not yet been created a generally accepted hypothesis on the origin of sungrazing comets. The aim of this article is to critically consider the hypothesis of comets' collisions with meteor showers. Materials and methods. For statistics, a catalog consisting of 1983 sungrazing comets is used. The study was carried out by classical methods of celestial mechanics using computer technologies. Results. The authors considered the Guliyev's hypothesis [19] on the sungrazing comets' origin as a result of collision of protocometary bodies with hypothetical meteor showers. In the hypothesis' creation there were used inadequate postulates: 1. There is no phenomenon of Kreutz comets' perihelion concentration to a point with ecliptic coordinates $L=282^\circ$, $B=35^\circ$. 2. There is Kreutz comets' perihelion concentration to a hypothetical meteor shower. The meteor showers' radius has been determined on the basis of erroneously calculated heliocentric distances of the nodes of cometary orbits. Conclusions. The article displays the inconsistency of the Guliyev's hypothesis [19] on the sungrazing comets' origin as a result of collisions of protocometary bodies with hypothetical meteor showers.
