On spectral analysis of numerical schemes for the linear transport equation

Abstract:
We consider linear semidiscrete schemes on uniformmeshes with several degrees of freedom for the transport equation with constant velocity. Accuracy analysis of these schemes is usually reduced to analysis on single modes. However we failed to find a rigorous justification of this procedure. For a smooth solution we prove an error estimate based on the solution error for single modes.
