Abstract:
Currently, in various scientific investigations, much attention is paid to the scattering of light in stochastic media and materials. For example, simulation of the light propagation in such environments is used in biology and medicine, physics of atmospheric and ocean, as well as in the development and design of various optical devices and elements. In this case it becomes necessary to determine the parameters describing the scattering of light in a really existing medium for their further use in simulation. This paper is devoted to a detailed description of the procedure for calculating the parameters of volume scattering on the basis of standard measurements on a measurement setup designed and built at KIAM RAS. The basis of the calculation uses simple and fairly clear physical and mathematical principles. The article proposes a procedure for calculating such parameters using ray tracing. As a result of applying this procedure in the spectral mode, the parameters of volume scattering for real samples were calculated. The results of the calculations were verified by simulating the light characteristics of virtual models of real samples. It is shown that the achieved accuracy of calculations corresponds to the declared accuracy of the measurement setup.
