Form evolution of a population of space debris particles in the near-earth region

Abstract:
We investigate how a population of debris particles changed its form with time. The investigation consists in calculation of a large number of solutions of averaged differential equations for osculating orbital elements of a single particle. The equations take into account the main disturbing factors: Earth oblateness, atmosphere drag, gravitation of Moon and Sun, solar radiation pressure. If initial dimensions of a population are small (not more than a few tens km), its evolution follows the almost universal scenario. After about 100 days, particles occupy uniformly the narrow tube of closed orbits. Next, the tube changes its form slowly and destroys. The particle distributions in the longitude of ascending node and latitude of perigee argument become uniform and concentrated in short intervals. The interval lengths increase slowly with time.
