Method for the numerical solution of heat transfer equation with discontinuous coefficient based on multigrid techniques

Abstract:
A new numerical method for the solution of initial-boundary problems for heat transfer equation with discontinuous coefficient based on multigrid techniques is proposed. Good accuracy of the proposed method was confirmed by numerical tests performed for a two-dimensional model problem on orthogonal grids. The use of the method for the solution of initial-boundary problems for heat transfer equation on refined grids makes it possible to considerably reduce the computational work as compared to either implicit or explicit schemes.
