System for Construction of the Planar Images with the Aid of Iterated Function Systems
L. I. Levkovich-Maslyuk, N. A. Naumov, E. E. Samoylova
Abstract:
A system for the generation of planar images from the metadescription is presented. As a means for image generation the iterated function systems (IFS) are used. IFS is a finite set of contractive affine mappings of a plane to itself. This approach enables the extremely compact representation of complex images of real-life objects. The basic tool for finding parameters of mappings is the M.Barnsley's Collage Theorem. A class of pictures generated by such an approach may be defined as a class of self-similar pictures. The property of self-similarity means that the image as a whole is composed of the parts which are the transformed versions of the whole. System is used as a dedicated extension of an image translator. A metadescription of an image is fed to the input of the translator in a form of a specialised image generation grammar. On the output the created image is obtained. Possible application of the system could be the image development from the prototype, experimentation on the grammar as well as the analysis of the emerging images. The system was implemented in C under the Microsoft QuickC 2.0 environment on the IBM PC AT-286 computer.
