On the adequacy of point criteria to problems of evaluating and comparing interval alternatives
M. Yu. Sternin, G. I. Chepelev Institute for Systems Analysis of Russian Academy of Sciences
Abstract:
Point (one numerical) indicators, which are supposedly equivalent to the original interval ones, are rather often used in practice solving problems of evaluation and comparison of alternatives with interval, because of the uncertainty, quality indicators. The paper shows that the indicator, which numerically characterizes the chances of the truth of the hypothesis on preference of one of the alternatives in their compared pair, is more adequate to such tasks. Comparison of evaluation of alternatives on the basis of the proposed criterion and the criterion of mathematical expectation is done. The comparison results show advantage of the first indicator.
Keywords:
evaluation and comparison of interval alternatives, point criteria of comparison, chances of preferability for compared alternatives, comparison of criteria.
