Abstract: Some notes on the new book by V.K. Finn “Intelligence, Information Society, Humanitarian Knowledge and Education” are presented. A discussion about philosophical and methodological foundations of artificial intelligence (AI) viewed as a pluridisciplinary scientific area is deployed. It is based on Finn’s concept of exact epistemology and modified Gardner’s hexagon to illustrate the interaction between cognitive sciences. The problems of logical modeling in AI are faced, basic characteristics of modern logics are pointed out. In the framework of unified logical-semiotic approach to the understanding problem in AI, an important role of Finn’s three-valued logic and four-valued argumentation logics is shown. The non-Aristotle structures of concepts are examined. In the final section of the paper Finn’s “educational theses” are reconsidered and the need in using cognitive heuristics and synthesis of plausible reasoning methods, primarily, the JSM-method, in both humanitarian and engineering sciences is justified.
Keywords: artificial intelligence, partnership system, exact epistemology, logic of sound knowledge, induction, heuristics, synthesis of reasoning, JSM-method, rational anthropology, formal semiotics, productive thinking.
