Abstract: To any plane tree one can associate a finite permutational group, so-called the edge rotation group. In this paper we describe primitive edge rotation groups of plane trees. Relations to the monodromy groups of polynomials with complex coefficients and the reducibility problem for polynomials of the form $f(x)-g(y)$ are pointed out.
