Study, by electron microscopy, of processes occurring at boundary between Cr$_2$O$_3$ and Al
N. S. Sharipova, V. N. Ermolaev, Ch. G. Khan Alma-Ata
Abstract:
Transmission electron microscopy and electronography were used for the simulation and study of the physicochemical changes occurring during the combustion of Cr$_2$O$_3$ – Al mixtures. It was shown that the interaction between the initial components of the mixture at their points of contact was associated with a change in their state (molten, gaseous phases). The reduction of Cr$_2$O$_3$ to metallic Cr involved the formation of the intermediate oxide, CrO. It was shown that the proposed methods of study were satisfactory for studying the processes occurring in the combustion front of condensed systems.
