Hydrodynamic sources of oscillations in combustion chambers

Abstract: It is shown that low-frequency sources of oscillations in the combustion chambers of solid-propellant reaction engines are attributable to hydrodynamic instability of large-scale contact discontinuities in the main gas flow and are not associated with vibratory combustion. This conclusion is corroborated by experimental and numerical investigations.
