Free-osciliation regime of diffusional gas combustion in an electric field focused on the preignition zone

Abstract:
Results are described of experiments on the effect of a constant electric field on the diffusional combustion of propane–butane. Characteristics of the experimentally detected free-oscillation combustion regime, which results in severe perodic flame front surface changes for a fixed fuel flow rate and a constant potential difference on the electrodes, were investigated. A hypothesis is proposed which qualitatively explains the obtained effects.
