Combustion regimes of magnesium conglomerates

Abstract: The combustion of conglomerates of mass 1–28 mg formed from Mg powder with an average grain diameter from 6 $\mu$m to 100 $\mu$m is investigated. It is shown that small Mg conglomerates burn in the vapor-phase regime of solitary particles with a modified Sreznevskii constant. The combustion of large conglomerates is observed to proceed in stages. The subsurface burnup time of the conglomerates is estimated. The calculated values are in good agreement with the experimental.
