Abstract: Based on a comparison of the thermal profiles of combustion waves, obtained by means of a high-speed brightness pyrometer, with phase diagrams, a new model for the interaction of the components in the Ni–Al binary system is proposed that allows most fully for the characteristics of the fine thermal structure of an experimentally fixed combustion wave profile, and for the character of the phase diagram of the components. The applicability of the proposed model to predicting the phase composition of the products in the system studied is demonstrated experimentally.
