Some heat-and mass-transfer mechanisms in intumescent fire-resistant materials

Abstract:
A new experimental method is described which allows to investigate the mechanisms of heat transfer in intumescent materials. For a fire-resistant compound based on chlorosulfonic polyethylene and thermally expanding graphite, dependences are obtained of the intumescence, mass loss and density ratio on the annealing temperature and the heating rate. An effectiveness criterion is proposed which allows to perform a comparative analysis of the heat-resistant properties of the various coatings in fire tests.
