Abstract:
The intensity of fires caused by nuclear explosions and leading to injection of considerable amounts of smoke and black carbon to the atmosphere has been estimated. Estimation is based on the studies of the problem of “nuclear winter” – strong cooling of the Earth's surface owing to solar-radiation screening by the smoked atmosphere after wide-scale nuclear war.
