The Marangoni effect in combustion of energetic materials with a liquid surface layer

Abstract:
It is shown that under the action of a surface-tension gradient the well-known mechanism of bubble motion can ensure the effective removal of gaseous products from the reaction zone in the condensed phase of melting energetic materials with a very high temperature gradient. Taking this effect into account, one can reliably explain the appearance of a foam on the surface of some energetic materials after sudden switching-off of the combustion-supporting external radiation source.
