Abstract:
The behavior of oxidizers (perchlorates, nitrates, and oxides) during the high-speed breakdown of thin obstacles has been studied experimentally. The oxidizers under study are decomposed in the flow of fragments behind an obstacle and the minimum velocity of collision at which marked decomposition of the oxidizer proceeds correlates with the temperature of the onset of their thermal decomposition. The experimentally observed intense combustion of fragments of an obstacle and of the capsule in which the oxidizers were thrown proceeds in some cases in an explosive regime and is associated with the high chemical activity of the new surfaces formed in the breakdown process.
