Effectiveness of charges of various designs in rock blasting by a contact explosion

Abstract: The destructive powers of several contact explosive charges of various designs are compared. It is shown that the effectiveness of a contact explosion increases with the density and detonation velocity of explosives and the closeness of the charge to the surface to be blasted and is a function of the acoustical properties of the medium to be blasted.
