Abstract:
Through a comparison of experimental data on stable ignition and combustion of initial specimens composing igniter trains of pyrotechnic charges, critical conditions for combustion-wave transition through the contact surface between neighboring compound-explosive compacts are found. The evaluation procedure is tested with twenty explosives representing different combinations of five compacts of pyroxylin (gun-cotton), black gunpowder, and three types of pyrotechnic mixtures. Minimal dimensions of an interfacial protuberance promoting combustion-wave propagation throughout the charge are found.
