Description of pipeline processes by Petri nets

Abstract: An approach is developed whereby conveyor-belt-like processes are described as Petri nets with inhibitory arches. The notion of process productivity is introduced which is represented as the total number of points in the associated Petri net. Algorithms for optimization of the description are given.
