Optimal control of a two-rate servicing systems with intertial switching

A threshold strategy is discussed of switching the customer service rate in a two-rate system where the server rate switching occurs following the service of a fixed number of customers since the time the decision has been made to switch the rate. The equilibrium distribution of system state probabilities and an explicit dependence of the system performance criterion on the threshold used in decision making are found.
