Equivalence of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation and the equation of a Heisenberg ferromagnet

Abstract:
The concept of gauge equivalence is introduced for nonlinear equations that can be
integrated by the inverse scattering technique. It is shown that the nonlinear
Schrödinger equation is equivalent to a continuous isotropic chain of Heisenberg
spins.
